The education, the liquidation of the illiteracy among children and adults, the integration (including the integration of the minorities in the different countries), the improvement of the social environment, the prevention of the exploitation of the human labor and the human trafficking – these are just a few of the spheres the activity of our organization aligns with. We are convinced we can change a lot. All our projects are free of charge and accessible for a wide range of people, regardless of their age, education, religion, profession, sex or sexual orientation.

IFES, while serving as a technical tool for training in the occupational and professional areas, accomplishes a social purpose focused on workers –both employed and unemployed-and contributes to the economic development and the improvement of competitiveness and quality of enterprises through training.

  • Lancaster Polish community

    PolskaMacierzThe Lancaster Polish community has existed since the late 1940s when Polish people were liberated from German prisoner of war camps. These were followed by people escaping labour camps in Russia, or escaping the communist regime. Family and friends have slowly joined them over the decades. And since the early 2000s, the Polish community in Lancaster has grown with recent waves of economic migrants. The Polish community is a thriving community of all ages. Great emphasis is placed on teaching Polish, but also teaching English to adults. The community was enthusiastic about helping in the primary research for the WorKit project, with more women (many of whom are looking for part time work because of family commitments) completing the questionnaires than the men.

Currently a national strategy to accommodate asylum seekers from Syria is an important part of their work. The centre in Preston deals with many asylum seekers and refugees many of whom are from Africa and the Middle East, many of whom are single Young men. This cohort is looking for work, and therefore the WorkIt project will be especially beneficial to them.

They will be accommodating a number of Syrian families who have been re-located to Lancaster.

    ECAPThe ECAP Foundation is a non-profit charitable institute for adult education and research which was founded by the Italian labour union CGIL and has been active in Switzerland since 1970.
